Pencil or watercolours? Why not try water soluble pencils! You can get your colours down fairly quickly and then just a little bit of water on a brush will mix the colours and give you a gentle wash.
Useful tip: It’s always useful to have some scrap paper to test out what you want to do before working on your ‘Colour Sketch’.
