Think vintage railway posters – they’re probably the most iconic. Blocks of colour. You can skip the detail but accentuate the shadows, highlights and the structure of hills and shapes.

Looking at, for instance, Blencathra, pick 3 or 5 colours: highlights, midtones, shadows. Mix enough paint – it can difficult to match exactly once you get started.
Think about the effect you’re after: fresh, clear colours for spring; muted tones for a vintage look or perhaps a lively pop of colour more reminiscent of pop art – the choice is yours.
